canadiennes dans les pays de langue allemande I am offering an E-learning
seminar in Canadian Native Studies again, beginning in May 2011.

Native Studies: First Nations of Eastern Canada

The aim of this course is to give an overview of the First Nations of
Eastern Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Québec, and Ontario) - their
culture, their present activities for survival and revival, and their
relationship with the Canadian and Provincial Governments.

Based on the Handbook of North American Indians (Vol. 15: Northeast/vol. 4:
History of Indian-White Relations) the following Nations with their tribal
subgroups will be discussed: Beothuk, Micmac, Maliseet-Passamaquoddy,
Western Abenaki, Iroquois, Khionontateronon, Chippewa-Ojibwa, Ottawa,
Nipissing, and Algonquin.

Further topics of the course are:

·         Canadian, French and British Indian Policy (e.g. Indian Act, Jay
Treaty)

·         Survival and Revival (e.g. residential schools, Indian gaming)

·         Native languages
